About LNET

LNET is a global, neutral, non-profit organisation that acts as implementing agency for multilateral organisations and institutional coordination layer for the adoption of emerging technologies. 

We design and operate reliable digital infrastructure so that governments, multilateral organisations and public-private partnerships can implement innovation in a way that secure, auditable, interoperable and scalable, with a real impact. 

We promote digital public goods and open standards to enable inclusive and sustainable adoption, with tangible impact at both regional and global scale.

Our History

LNET surge dentro del marco de LACChain, una iniciativa de IDB Lab, el laboratorio de innovación del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, lanzada en 2019 para promover el uso de blockchain para el desarrollo en América Latina y el Caribe. 

En 2021, este esfuerzo se consolidó con la creación de una organización independiente sin fines de lucro basada en Uruguay, fundada por RedCLARA y LACNIC, garantizando gobernanza neutral, continuidad operativa y alineación con estándares internacionales. 

Desde entonces, LNET ha acompañado más de 100 proyectos en 23 países, evolucionando desde una red blockchain hacia un modelo integral de orquestación institucional. 

The beginning

LACChain Alliance

LACChain is born as an IDB LAB initiative with the goal of expanding and supporting the adoption of blockchain in the region.

2019

The first network

Technology with Purpose

The first public permissioned blockchain network is developed in a production environment (now called Legacy).

2020

The Network Orchestrator

Creation of LACNet

To ensure neutral network orchestration and governance, LACNIC and RedCLARA are founding LACNet as an organization independent from the LACChain project.

2021

Growth

Migration to Omega Mainnet

To ensure network scalability, the new LACNet Mainnet Omega network has been created, which is an evolution of the previous (Legacy) network, more robust and prepared for the challenges of the coming years, such as quantum computing.

2022

The network’s lift-off

Driving real change

Since 2019, more than 100 projects have been implemented in collaboration with over 150 entities in 21 countries, positively impacting more than 9 million people in the region.

LACChain + LACNet = LNET

LACChain and LACNet are integrated under a single global brand identity: LNET, an international organization with the mission of articulating the needs of the public and private sectors and international organizations by transforming emerging technologies into concrete solutions.
